DAF Genuine Back Pressure Valve

Controlled exhaust performance for reliable regeneration and maximum uptime

The Back Pressure Valve, or BPV, is a key component in the exhaust aftertreatment system of modern DAF engines. It controls exhaust gas pressure and helps the Exhaust Aftertreatment System reach the temperatures needed for correct regeneration.

The DAF Genuine BPV is developed and validated by DAF engineers as part of the complete exhaust and aftertreatment system. It meets the highest DAF quality requirements and is the best choice for new DAF trucks where reliable performance, durability and system protection are essential.

How regeneration works

During regeneration, the Diesel Particulate Filter, or DPF, must reach a high temperature to burn off collected soot.

The BPV supports this process in two important steps:

  1. The BPV increases exhaust back pressure, causing the engine to work harder and generate more heat. This helps raise the exhaust gas temperature to approximately 270°C, which is required to initiate the regeneration process.
  2. The seventh injector then injects fuel to raise the temperature of the Exhaust Aftertreatment System to approximately 600°C, allowing the soot in the DPF to be burned off.

The BPV is essential during the first step. If it cannot create the correct conditions, the required starting temperature is not reached and regeneration cannot begin.

Designed as part of the complete DAF system

The BPV does not work on its own. It operates within the complete exhaust and engine management system, together with:

  • the Turbocharger
  • the VTG actuator
  • the EGR valve
  • the Engine ECU
  • the Exhaust Aftertreatment System

All these components must work together to control exhaust flow, temperature and engine operation. The DAF Genuine BPV is developed as part of this complete system, helping every component perform as intended.

Why correct BPV operation matters

If the BPV fails or does not operate correctly, the system may not reach the temperature needed to start regeneration.

This can lead to:

  • additional soot build-up in the DPF
  • an incomplete or blocked regeneration process
  • reduced engine performance
  • increased fuel consumption
  • a clogged DPF
  • unplanned workshop visits and downtime

A correctly functioning BPV helps keep the aftertreatment system clean, protects engine performance and supports long-term uptime.

Key advantages of the DAF Genuine BPV

Developed for the complete DAF system

Designed and validated by DAF engineers to work in balance with the turbocharger, VTG actuator, EGR valve, engine ECU and aftertreatment system.

Built for temperatures up to 600°C

The bearing and shaft use a special sintered material selected to withstand exhaust temperatures of up to 600°C. This supports stable movement, lower wear and long-term durability under high thermal loads.

Precise and responsive control

The upgraded 16-bit system provides less overshoot and reaches a steady operating position faster. This supports precise valve positioning and stable system performance.

High temperature bearing and shaft

The bearing and shaft are manufactured from special sintered material, specifically selected to withstand exhaust temperatures up to 600°C. This material choice ensures stable movement, reduced wear and long term durability under thermal load.

Improved protection against electrical stress

The updated actuator PCB provides better resistance to electrical overstress.

Improved actuator cooling

The improved coolant line connection helps prevent leakage and actuator overheating, reducing the risk of vehicle breakdown.

Complete and correct assembly

The DAF Genuine BPV is supplied complete with the actuator and, where applicable, the correct heatshield. This supports correct exhaust flow and protects nearby aftertreatment components.

Produced under controlled conditions

Each new DAF Genuine BPV is produced under controlled manufacturing conditions. This helps protect the exhaust system against contamination and assembly issues.

  • Maximum uptime
Supports reliable regeneration and helps reduce the risk of unplanned downtime.
  • Predictable performance
Provides precise valve positioning and stable engine behaviour.
  • Protection for the complete system
Helps prevent soot build-up and protects sensitive exhaust aftertreatment components.
  • Lower risk of additional costs
Helps avoid repeat workshop visits, unnecessary repairs and increased fuel consumption caused by regeneration problems.
  • Long-term durability
Materials and components are selected for continuous operation under high temperatures and changing exhaust pressure.
  • Peace of mind
You know the BPV has been developed and validated as part of your DAF truck.

Do not compromise on system performance

The BPV is a system-critical component. Differences in material quality, cleanliness, electronics and assembly can directly affect exhaust flow, aftertreatment performance and vehicle uptime.

Remanufactured or non-genuine alternatives may include incorrect components, unfinished sealing surfaces, contamination or missing protective parts. These differences can lead to leakage, increased wear, disturbed exhaust flow or higher heat exposure for nearby sensors and cables.

Choose the BPV designed, tested and integrated as part of the complete DAF system.
