St vd Brink is a family business with a passion for people and transport. Since its inception in 1945, the company has grown into an all-round international carrier with a fleet comprising 450 of its own vehicles. Around 750 permanent employees transport a quarter of a million pallets a year. The company specialises in conveying refrigerated and frozen goods as well as transporting building materials. Horse and carriage
Manager Kornelis Schrijver is proud of how far the family business has come. "Some 78 years ago, the grandfather of Managing Director Alex van den Brink started stocking bakers' shops in Ermelo by horse and carriage. Decades of good entrepreneurship, healthy growth and a major takeover ten years ago have turned the one-man business into a formidable transport company. We now have a whole load of planners on the job", laughs Kornelis.
DAF Diesel Particulate Filter Service
The transport company places a great deal of emphasis on quality and sustainable transport. A DPF that functions correctly is a prerequisite for meeting Euro 6 emission standards in Europe. Kornelis explains: "Our strategy is to replace the DPF in each truck after three years, because continuing to drive beyond this point can cost you up to two percent more fuel. Unfortunately, in the past we've had some negative experiences with having filters cleaned externally. The DPFs that were returned to us looked clean, but the quality was clearly substandard. We have opted for the DAF Diesel Particulate Filter Service because DAF guarantees the same quality and service interval as the original filter. Maintenance in house
St vd Brink carries out almost all maintenance and repair work as well as the periodic vehicle inspections in house, including on the approximately 60 new DAF trucks that the company will soon receive. This has always been the case, only damage repair is outsourced. "DAF has delivered various training courses to our service engineers to ensure that the New Generation DAF (with the same DPF) can also be maintained properly. We haven't had any turnover in our pool of mechanics for a number of years, so investing in the knowledge and skills of our people is an investment in the future. Our technicians are highly trained and able to do anything, which is very reassuring."
